How MANGOFONE LIMITED handles your personal data, why we need it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it.

Who we are
MANGOFONE LIMITED of 232 High Street, Walthamstow, London E17 7JH is the data controller for the personal data described in this notice. You can reach us at info@mangofonerepair.co.uk or . (Company registration number to be inserted before launch.)
What we collect, and why
We only ask for what we actually need to do the job. Specifically:
- When you book a repair: your name, mobile number, email address, the device make and model, what is wrong with it, and — if you have chosen a home visit — your address and any access notes. Our lawful basis is performance of a contract (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): we cannot repair a device or turn up at your door without these.
- Optionally, your IMEI or serial number. We use it to order the correct part and to identify your device on the bench. It also lets us confirm a device has not been reported lost or stolen, which is a legitimate interest of ours and of the wider public.
- Your device passcode, if you choose to give it. See Access to your device below.
- When you ask us to buy or trade in a device: the device details plus, at the point of sale, sight of photo identification and proof of ownership. We are required to keep a record of who we bought a device from; our basis is legal obligation and legitimate interests in preventing the handling of stolen goods.
- When you reserve an item or send us a message: your name and contact details and the content of your message, so we can reply.
- Marketing emails, only if you tick the box: your basis here is consent, and you can withdraw it at any time with one click or by replying to any message.
- Technical data: we store a one-way salted hash of your IP address against form submissions so we can rate-limit abuse. We never store the address itself, and the hash cannot be reversed back to it.
Access to your device
For most repairs we need to unlock your device to test that the repair worked — a screen we cannot swipe is a screen we have not properly tested. If you give us a passcode:
- It is written on the job sheet and used only for testing.
- Our technicians do not open your photos, messages, email or banking apps. If we ever need to open an app to test a function (the camera, for example) we will tell you which and why.
- The passcode is deleted from our records when the job is closed, and we strongly recommend you change it afterwards.
- You are always welcome to decline and instead stay with the device and unlock it yourself for testing. Nobody will make you feel awkward about that.
Please back up before handing a device over, and ideally sign out of banking apps. We treat everything we see as confidential, but the safest data is data we never had access to.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We share it only with:
- Our hosting and database providers, who process data on our instructions under a written contract. Our servers are in the UK or EU wherever the provider offers it.
- Couriers and parts suppliers, only where a repair requires sending a device or part, and only the minimum needed.
- The police, where we are legally required to, or where we have reasonable grounds to believe a device is stolen.
If we ever need to transfer data outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Repair records: six years from the repair. This is deliberate — it is how we can honour a warranty claim, prove what work was done, and meet HMRC record-keeping requirements.
- Device passcodes: deleted when the job closes.
- Trade-in and purchase records, including ID checks: six years, for the same reasons plus proof of lawful purchase.
- Enquiries and messages: two years, then deleted.
- Marketing consent records: until you withdraw consent, plus two years so we can prove we had it.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the data we hold about you (a subject access request);
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have data erased where we no longer have a good reason to keep it — note we may need to retain repair and purchase records for the periods above;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- ask us to transfer it to another provider;
- withdraw consent to marketing at any time.
Email info@mangofonerepair.co.uk and we will respond within one month, free of charge. If you are not happy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Cookies
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies and, only with your consent, analytics and advertising cookies. See our cookie policy for the detail and to change your choice.
Children
Our services are aimed at adults. We will happily repair a device belonging to a child, but the booking and the contract should be made by a parent or guardian.
