What usually goes wrong
Cracked or black screen
If an external monitor works but the built-in display does not, it is usually the panel or its cable rather than the graphics. We test that first so you are not paying for the wrong part.
Will not hold charge, or will not power on
Could be the battery, the charging board or the adapter. All three are cheap to test and we do it before quoting. A laptop that shows no sign of life at all is board-level work, which we also do.
Painfully slow
The single best fix for an older laptop is swapping a mechanical hard drive for an SSD, usually with more RAM at the same time. We clone your existing Windows or macOS install so you keep your files, programs and settings.
Screaming fans, then shutting down
Years of dust plus dried thermal paste. We strip the cooling system, clean the heatsink and fans and repaste, and put the before-and-after temperatures on your receipt.
Liquid spill
Urgent. Sugar and salt corrode traces within hours. Power it down, do not try to dry it out with rice or a hairdryer, and get it to us the same day.

Questions
If yours is not here, call or message — we would rather answer before you come in.
Ask us somethingIs it worth repairing an old laptop or should I replace it?
If the chassis and screen are sound, an SSD and a RAM upgrade for well under a hundred pounds will often make a five- or six-year-old machine feel new, and that is far better value than a cheap new laptop with a slow drive. If the board has failed on an older machine we will tell you it is not worth it rather than take your money.
Will I lose my files?
Not on a screen, battery, keyboard or fan job — we do not touch the drive. On upgrades we clone the drive so everything comes across. Back up first regardless: no repair is completely without risk and we cannot restore data we never had a copy of.
Do you repair MacBooks?
Yes — Air and Pro, Intel and Apple Silicon. Screens, batteries, keyboards, trackpads, ports and board-level faults including liquid damage. Apple Silicon machines have the storage soldered to the board, so data recovery from a dead logic board is difficult and expensive; we will be straight with you about the odds before you commit.
